Bruce Lansky was born in New York, NY on June 1, 1941. He attended St. John's College and later graduated from NYU. Although Lansky majored in Philosophy, he had a number of jobs after graduating that revolved around advertising and/or marketing.
Lansky married a woman named Vicki. They had a son named Douglas together.
Lansky said once said, "What rescued me from poverty was that my wife
and some other mothers wrote a cookbook. We published it ourselves, and it was
a huge hit. That's how I figured out that I wanted to be a publisher when I
grew up. We built Meadowbrook Press, and I became an author of baby name books
and humor books for adults."
At the outset of Lansky's writing career, he was not the greatest; however, he would "rewrite them over and
over" to get them "just right." This is something for students and all beginning writers to keep in mind when they are struggling to improve. It takes time to become a good writer, even for this famous poet.
Lansky said, "My goal to put on the most entertaining, most educational, and
most motivating assembly a school has ever had."

Lansky's style of writing could be described as very funny. He writes about things like nose-sniffing, things that will amuse both children and adults. He also seems to be a fan of rhyming.
In addition to writing children's books, Lansky has also written numerous baby name books.
